We may quickly scan the pages of Scripture, and it won’t be long before we are faced with men like Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, the Judges, and women like Ruth, Esther, and Mary, the mother of our Lord. God works through people — individuals more often than not. He ignites a person by placing them in the cricible and then sends them, like the brand on Isaiah’s lips, to breathe fire into the others. Is there any other account in history other than the suffering and death of Jesus Our Savior, that demonstrates this better than Queen Esther? The time had come, whether it was the right time or the wrong time, it was now! God’s eternal providence had guided all events to this moment when His humble servant, whom He has uniquely positioned, will speak Truth into the very jaws of evil! Queen Esther's uncle, Mordecai, appears at the entrance of the palace gate at Susa, the Citadel. He is wearing ancient mourning attire and lamenting with loud cries. The Queen is informed, and she is alarmed! Haman is the newly appointed Premier under Cyrus II. The Bible describes him as an 'Agagite' and the 'enemy of Israel.'
