6 Tage auf dem Wiener Höhenweg (4K)
Portrait of a Six-Day Mountaineering-Trip from July 2024, in the High Tauern Mountains of Austria. With us were Robin, whose guitar playing delighted many a hut guest, Joachim, accustomed to cool temperatures from Finnish winters, and myself. ______________________________________ The Wiener Höhenweg is absolutely worth recommending! The huts are quite small, warmly managed, and wonderfully remote. The trails offer stunning views, are exciting and solitary, while the summit goals along the way are rewarding. Be prepared for short distances between huts but significant altitude changes, as the route doesn’t follow a ridge but instead crosses one or more passes each day and descends into a valley. Some stages can be combined if you’re fit enough. Alongside the famous peaks of the Schober group, there are many viewpoint summits along the route that require only short detours. Please check the link below, if you want to know more about the tour. ______________________________________ On this tour, we were blessed with mostly perfect weather, with only the second and third days showing thunderstorm tendencies—manifesting either as late-evening lightning or storms on the horizon. ______________________________________ If you’re inspired to visit the places shown in this video, please tread carefully and responsibly. Alpine clubs provide guidance on safe mountain travel. Protect our natural environment by staying on established paths, avoiding picking plants, leaving no trash, keeping a safe distance from wildlife, refraining from flying drones, and applying common sense—even where others might not. ______________________________________ I share the desire to feel close to nature by bivouacking or camping. However, the Alps, at the heart of Europe, face immense usage pressure, and the Hohe Tauern is a national park. Therefore, please only stay overnight at one of the many managed huts, alpine pastures, or bivouac shelters. This helps preserve crucial retreats for wildlife. ______________________________________ All information about the Wiener Höhenweg can be found here (in German, translating-tool onside): https://www.alpenvereinaktiv.com/de/t...
