The author of this story, Edgar Allan Poe, was born in Boston, USA in 1809. He lost his parents in childhood and lived an unfortunate life. This experience leads to the sentiments of loneliness and death that run throughout his works. Poe is regarded as a pioneer of horror fiction and the author of the world's first mystery novel. He is also the poet who wrote my favorite beautiful love poem, *Annabel Lee*. Annabel Lee Edgar Allan Poe A very long time ago, in a kingdom by the sea, there lived a girl named Annabel Lee. She loved me and lived only thinking of being loved by me. I was a child, and she was a child, and in this kingdom by the sea, we loved each other endlessly. Annabel Lee and I—even the angels in heaven were jealous of our love. That is the very reason. Long ago, a cold wind from the sky blew into this kingdom by the sea and froze my beautiful Annabel Lee. And the angels in heaven tore her away from me and locked her up in a tomb in this kingdom by the sea. The angels, who were not even half as happy in heaven as we were, were jealous of her and my love. That is right. There is no other reason. (As all here in the kingdom by the sea know well) It was the wind that blew in the clouds at night, and made Annabel Lee cold to death. But our love was much stronger. Stronger than the love of those older than us, Stronger than the love of those much wiser than us. And not even the angels in heaven, or the devils beneath the sea, can ever separate my soul from the soul of beautiful Annabel Lee. Whenever the moon rises, I dream of beautiful Annabel Lee; Whenever the stars rise, I feel the bright eyes of beautiful Annabel Lee. And so, throughout the stormy night, I lie with her, My love—my love—beside my bride, my life, in her resting place by the sea—in her grave by the stormy sea.
