#Atomu #Wasamu #TodaysSurprises! Yoshimoto Kogyo comedian Atomu is currently creating a huge buzz on YouTube with his videos showcasing the daily life of a "Hokkaido man" with a Showa-era vibe. In just two and a half months since we interviewed him on TodaysSurprises!, his channel's total views have surpassed 130 million, a five-fold increase! Yesterday, we heard that Atomu was returning to his hometown of Wasamu, where he was born and raised, so we headed over to cover the story. But for some reason, we ended up at the town hall...? The Wasamu location shoot began at short notice. We visited Mikasayama Nature Park Children's Land. It's a small amusement park that Atomu visited many times as a child, and even though it's been 20 years, it brought back memories. Next up was Marufuji Shokudo, a restaurant familiar to Wasamu residents, where the saying "If the mountain is Fuji, the taste is Marufuji." Finally, still dressed as a "Hokkaido Uncle," we visited Cafe Nirenoki, a cafe run by Atomu's mother and grandmother. Featured were his mother, Kazuyo, and his grandmother, Yachiyo. We asked about their grandson's success. Grandmother: "We're grateful (as supporters)." Atomu: "If they're happy, that's all I can say. We get along so well, and my grandmother has a weak neck, so she's always playing around like this. Even in a homey cafe like this, my grandmother has a really weak neck." Grandmother: "She does this so much, even at sushi restaurants." Atomu: "Yachiyo's weak neck is a specialty of Wasamu. Perhaps the most distinctive feature of Wasamu is her weak neck."
