Episódio 21: Gemellaggio Rio Jordão com Val di Zoldo

The community of Rio Jordão received a delegation of Italians at the end of 2023 to confirm the twinning agreement between Siderópolis and Val di Zoldo. The reason is historical, as between 1893 and 1895 the locality received two waves of immigrants, totaling 30 families, originating from what was then Forno di Zoldo, who founded the district. Among the immigrants who left the locality in the province of Belluno were the Fontanella family. Descendants of this family, Lourdes Cesconetto Fontanella and Jorge Fontanella, were keen to open the doors of their family property to receive the visitors. Angelo Natal Périco, President of the Cultural Association of Friends of Forno di Zoldo, Lúcio Ubialli, former Mayor of Siderópolis, and Arcangelo Pancera, from Val di Zoldo, shared the history of an international protocol that resulted in many benefits, especially for the community of Rio Jordão. The twinning agreement was celebrated between Siderópolis and the Comune of Forno di Zoldo, now Val di Zoldo, in December 1995. The friendship pact between the sister cities has been rescuing the pride, dignity, and sense of Italian identity of the descendants of Italian immigrants and has built a bridge that reconnects us to our origins, creating solid and lasting ties between the two communities.
