This weapon was not only a masterpiece of German engineering, but a sure killer that mowed down everything in its path and a key tool on the battlefield. Allied soldiers who came into contact with this machine gun described the sound of the firing not as a normal machine gun, but more like a ripping wood saw, and when this sound occurred, certain death was not far away.
