When Good Sharpeners Get Stuck: Fixing Left-Handed Raven Shears
These left-handed Raven shears came to me because they wouldn’t cut hair without pulling. On the surface, they looked sharp… but they weren’t cutting like they should. In this video, I walk through exactly what was wrong, what I saw right away, and how I fixed it — step by step. No edits hiding mistakes. If it didn’t work, you’d see it. What was wrong with these shears: Sharpened like a convex when they should be beveled A small nick causing drag Alignment issues causing a gap at the tip What I cover in this video: Demagnetizing shears and shop static issues Checking alignment the fast way When bending helps — and when it doesn’t Establishing and correcting the ride line Outside bevel sharpening on a flat hone Creating and removing the bur (friend and enemy) Final testing on paper towel and hair These were sent to me by another sharpener — a good one — and that’s important. Sometimes it’s not the sharpener. Sometimes it’s the shear, the design, or the way it was sharpened before. If you sharpen professionally or are thinking about getting into sharpening, this is the kind of real-world problem you will face. 🔧 TOOLS & TRAINING 📦 Free Sharpening Information Package https://bonika.com/products/free-info 🎓 Advanced & In-Depth Training (Patreon) Over 50 additional sharpening videos not on YouTube / bonikashears 👥 Sharpeners Jam Facebook Group / sharpenersjam 🛠️ Sharpening Tools & Equipment https://bonika.com ✂️ ABOUT ME I’m Bonnie Megowan with Bonika Shears. I’ve been sharpening for over 35 years, and when sharpeners run into problems they can’t figure out, they often send the shears to me to diagnose and fix — and to show why things went wrong. If this video helped you, stick around.
