Principle of Moments Class 9th Urdu/Hindi
Principle of Moments Class 9th Urdu/Hindi What are principles of moments? The principles of moments state that the net moment on an object is equivalent to the sum of individual moments on that object. This allows the calculation of the net moment on an object with multiple forces applied to it. Do moments have units? The units of moments are a distance unit multiplied by a force unit. In standard units SI units), the unit of moments is the newton-meter. What Does Moment Mean? In physics, moment describes the rotational effect of a force on a body about a fixed point or axis. For example, when a door is pushed open, a moment force is being applied onto it, causing it to rotate about an axis (hinges). The angle that which the force is applied to the door affects the moment force. For example, pushing or pulling a door parallel to the door applies a very small moment force and has very little effect on the door. In contrast, pushing or pulling the door perpendicular to the door maximizes the moment force. The Principle of Moments The result of a force applied to an object that can rotate is called a moment, which is very similar to torque. The differences are subtle, and the words moment and torque are often interchanged. At any moment during a typical day, whether you realize it or not, you're providing moments quite frequently. Sounds like a riddle doesn't it? How did Pierre Varignon provide moments to his writing utensil in the late 1600s when he wrote down the theory of the principle of moments called Varignon's theorem? That was the last riddle, I promise. Take a moment to clear your mind so we can learn about the principle of moments. The principle of moments , or Varignon's theorem, states that the net moment about one axis on an object is equal to the sum of the individual moments acting along that axis. In cases where multiple forces are acting, and there is no rotation, the principle of moments is zero. Formula and Unit of Moment When a force is applied on an object with a fixed axis or point of rotation, only the part of the force that is perpendicular to the line connecting the point of force and the axis affects the moment force. Furthermore, the moment force increases in proportion to the distance the force is applied from the point of rotation. Since the formula for moment includes the applied force (F) in newtons multiplied by the distance from the axis (r) in meters, the units of moment are newton-meters (N*m). The moment formula is: Moment of Force = r x F In the moment formula, both distance (r) and force (F) are vectors, and x indicates the cross-product of these two vectors. This can be rewritten to replace vectors with scalar values and the cross product by an expression: |Moment of Force| = r * sin(x) * F, where r and F are scalar values and x represents the angle between the applied force vector and the line connecting the point of force and the point of rotation. While moment of force is often in units of newton-meters, it may be in any unit of force times distance. This includes foot-pounds (ft*lbs) or kilonewton-meters (kN*m).
