Lecture series «Positions on Urbanism»: Lara Almarcegui

The artist Lara Almarcegui, who was born in Spain and lives in Rotterdam, addresses urban transformation processes as a result of political, social and economic changes in her projects. Since the mid-1990s, she has been directing her gaze to urban conditions that are not usually the focus of perception: Fallow land, building materials, the invisible. At a time of extensive urban regeneration in Europe, she was creating guides for the cities’ wastelands and even instigating their legal protection. The artist has been also working towards the acquisition of Mineral Rights on iron ore deposits in order to prevent extraction. This lecture is part of the series «Positions on Urbanism» that focuses on urban design issues, seeking new, contemporary and multidisciplinary approaches to discuss and solve current challenges to the built environment.
