In ten minutes, nature had completely transformed the landscape. I’m painting an oil sketch of an Italian town, the sea, and the mountains. As my brush moves across the canvas, heavy clouds are rapidly rolling in over the coast. The mountains fade into the haze, the boundary between sea and land disappears, and I spend the final minutes of my work as the rain begins to fall. Sometimes the most interesting subject isn’t born on the palette, but right before your eyes.
