Ubud, Bali. Wednesday, 24 June 2026. Welcome back to another relaxing Bali walking tour. This afternoon we're exploring the charming streets of Ubud, Bali during the Galungan holiday season, one of the most important celebrations in Balinese Hindu culture. The atmosphere around Ubud feels especially vibrant at this time of year, with local traditions blending beautifully into daily life. Our walk begins on Monkey Forest Street near Astina Field, a popular public parking area. The footpaths are busy with tourists browsing local shops, searching for souvenirs, and soaking up the unique atmosphere of Ubud. Meanwhile, traffic steadily flows along this one-way road leading into the heart of town. As we arrive at Ubud Town Square, we're treated to a special sight. Local Balinese children are performing Barong Bangkung, a traditional pig-shaped Barong dance that only appears during the Galungan and Kuningan period. These young performers wander through the streets entertaining visitors while continuing a long-standing cultural tradition. Next, we step inside the beautiful Ubud Palace to admire its iconic Balinese architecture and peaceful courtyard. Our journey continues into Karna Street, a lively market lane lined with stalls selling handicrafts, souvenirs, clothing, and artwork. From there we turn onto Dewisita Street, home to a variety of restaurants, cafés, spas, and small businesses catering to visitors from around the world. We then make our way along Hanoman Street before turning into South Goutama Street. This peaceful lane is loved by travellers thanks to its charming atmosphere, attractive shopfronts, and relatively low traffic. Many visitors enjoy wandering here at a leisurely pace without the noise and congestion found elsewhere in town. The walk continues into the famous Goutama Street, often described by visitors as one of the most romantic streets in Bali. As afternoon slowly transitions towards evening, people gather here for dinner, coffee, and photos. The warm yellow lights from restaurants and cafés create a cosy atmosphere that makes this area particularly popular with couples and travellers looking for a quieter side of Ubud. Finally, we emerge onto Ubud Main Street, where the contrast is immediate. Traffic fills the main road as vehicles move through the busy town centre. Near the Art Market, we once again encounter the young Barong Bangkung performers dancing in an open space, adding another memorable cultural moment to our walk.
