Hartz IV is back! The SPD, which once introduced a major impoverishment program to benefit capital with Agenda 2010, is now once again showing its cold side. Labor Minister Hubertus Heil, still considered relatively progressive, now wants to abolish the citizen's income for those who refuse to accept "reasonable" work. This contradicts a ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court. The debate about the citizen's income, as it is being conducted on public broadcasting as well as in the private media, is deeply dishonest; indeed, one could call it sheer demagoguery.
