STELLANTIS MELFI RIPARTE DALLA JEEP COMPASS: ANTONELLA BRUNO, MANAGING DIRECTOR
Stellantis celebrated the start of production of the New Compass today at the Melfi plant, the third generation of the SUV that has achieved over 2.5 million sales worldwide. Production takes place at the Stellantis Melfi plant, which in 2014 became the first Jeep production site outside of North America, initially producing the Renegade and subsequently the Compass, including the pioneering 4xe plug-in hybrid versions. Since then, more than 2.3 million Jeep vehicles have rolled off its lines. The Melfi plant also serves as a testbed for cutting-edge industrial technologies that will soon be implemented at other Stellantis plants. These include advanced laser systems that ensure 100% accuracy in body alignment and high-resolution electronic cameras that continuously monitor door profiles throughout production. Antonella Bruno, Managing Director of Stellantis in Italy, said: "I am very honored and proud to be here for many reasons, but there are two that I would like to highlight in particular: gratitude for the people of this area who make the plant a world-class example of excellence, and a very special affection for the Jeep brand, which I had the honor of leading at the European level for two and a half years and which is now in the hands of a colleague I have known and appreciated for a long time, Fabio Catone, who is here before me. I have been responsible for Stellantis in Italy for exactly one year, that is, for the 10 passenger car brands and the 4 commercial vehicle brands, and I must say that it has been an intense year, not without its challenges. After the closing of the Stellantis Roundtable on December 17th at MIMIT, all together, starting with the institutions present here, we have worked hard to respond to the global challenges of our sector, focusing on a major Plan for Italy that we are implementing and which confirms that this country is strategically important in the global activities of the Group. The difficulties we are experiencing are not limited to national borders, but affect the whole of Europe, where we find ourselves managing, on the one hand, a demand that is failing to take off—despite some initial positive signs that I will return to later—and, on the other, a complicated energy transition. Furthermore, the challenge of electrification, as it has been posed, appears unsustainable because decarbonization objectives are misaligned with market dynamics and European industry. Our country is at the forefront in Europe to best address these challenges, but much remains to be done, and the time factor is far from secondary. We need clear and pragmatic rules. Today is a day of celebration for Melfi. This plant, with its over 30 years of history and 8.3 million vehicles produced to date, plays a key role in our Italian operations. This sentiment was also underscored by our CEO, Antonio Filosa, who, at this very plant a few days ago, reminded us that Melfi has a bright future. in the Group's global industrial presence and was impressed by the level of professionalism and the profound pride and commitment he saw in the eyes of all his colleagues. And again: "All this demonstrates that the constructive work we have done with the Government and the Regions, starting with Basilicata itself, has brought a new approach to the energy transition, placing concrete action at the center. We believe that by aligning our industrial plan with pragmatic regulatory changes at the European level, we will be able to offer our customers the choice they desire, thus allowing the market to return to growth. This will stimulate demand and could foster increased production volumes at our plants." Some data; In September, Stellantis' passenger car sales in Italy grew three times faster than the overall domestic market. Stellantis brands achieved overall growth of 15.5%. Stellantis' share was 26.8%, up 2.7% compared to the same month last year. These are the Group's overall results in Italy, where Jeep plays a leading role. In September, the brand ranked seventh in the domestic market, with a share of 4.4%. Jeep represents 15% of our volumes. Furthermore, over 700,000 Jeep vehicles are on the road in Italy. These data confirm that the success of the Jeep® Avenger shows no signs of slowing down. The first Jeep SUV designed in Turin and intended for the European market is now an absolute benchmark in the segment: it has been the best-selling SUV in Italy for 21 months. The Avenger is also the third best-selling vehicle overall in the Italian market.
