Could a Lumberjack (Axe) Defeat a HEMA Student (Longsword)?

Obviously I don't mean to incite some sort of blood feud between forestry workers and sword news, but as a purely hypothetical thought experiment: What if a logger had to fight a practitioner of historical martial arts (beginner or intermediate)? Would the raw destructive power of the axe overwhelm the longsword or would it be shut down by agility and versatility? I still see plenty of folks who dismiss the techniques we see in historical manuscripts as fancy BS, while insisting that strength and aggression are all that matters.
