WFP Evidence on anticipatory action
Climate disasters like floods, droughts and cyclones pose some of the biggest threats to food security in the Asia Pacific region. Responding to these disasters early can reduce losses to crops, belongings, and infrastructure, and lower the cost of humanitarian assistance. But how do we do it best to help the most people and make our resources stretch further? The World Food Programme’s Office of Evaluation is now working with UN-OCHA to generate evidence on anticipatory action. Impact evaluations show that anticipatory action helps alleviate humanitarian needs in the short run. We now need to further work on refining forecast systems to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness. We can also learn more about what we should pair with cash to make anticipatory action work even better. This work will be done in partnership with UN-OCHA.
