This is the second episode of a four-part series about diesel equipment repair in general and Delphi diesel injector repair in particular. Filming was conducted at the invitation of the director of Technodiesel in Chelyabinsk. Valery, the owner of the company, has been in the automotive service industry repairing fuel systems for trucks for over 20 years. In this episode, we'll cover injector and fuel injection pump failures. Valery will discuss the problems that lead to the failure of expensive fuel injection systems. Interestingly, a parallel can be drawn with medicine. Everyone has probably heard the saying that you should treat the cause, not the symptom. This is especially true when it comes to diesel fuel system repair. As Valery explains, if your injectors are failing, it's not enough to simply replace them with new ones. You need to look further for the cause: in the fuel injection pump, in the pipelines, in the fuel tank, in the filters, and in low-quality diesel fuel. Over 20 years, we've accumulated extensive experience repairing diesel engine injectors. In addition to this experience, Technodiesel, a company in Chelyabinsk, has specialized equipment for diagnosing injectors and high-pressure fuel pumps. Currently, we can repair unit injectors from virtually any manufacturer. When I was there, the team was diagnosing and repairing KamAZ injectors. They were also extensively repairing Denso injectors from 4HK1 engines for Isuzu vehicles. As Valery explained, high-pressure fuel pumps and injectors are often repaired after using low-quality diesel fuel. Valery explained that several fuel injection systems currently exist. The first is a system with a mechanical high-pressure fuel pump and mechanical injectors; this is the simplest system for diesel engines that meet Euro 0 emission standards. The next systems, which have begun to develop almost in parallel, are the common rail system and the unit injector system. Currently, a system is being developed where fuel injection is performed partly by unit injectors and partly by common rail injectors. For example, if we take a 6-cylinder engine, six of the injectors will be unit injectors, three will be common rail injectors, and there will be no high-pressure current pump. The complexity of fuel injection systems on diesel engines is increasing for several reasons: firstly, to improve environmental performance, secondly, to reduce fuel consumption, and thirdly, to burn more fuel in a smaller volume to increase engine power. The more complex the system becomes, the more difficult it is to repair it on the fly. While this was still possible with mechanical fuel injection pumps and injectors, repairing Bosch injectors or common rail fuel injection pumps is no longer possible without specialized diagnostic equipment. Delphi held a training seminar at Technodiesel for its employees, drawn from 11 of the company's offices in Russia and neighboring countries. The students completed theoretical and practical training in repairing Delphi injectors. In the next episodes, see why high-quality diagnostics and repair of fuel injectors is impossible without specialized equipment. It turns out that after repair, the injector still needs to be diagnosed, a special code obtained, and, when installed on the engine, even programmed into the truck's computer.
