Eclipsis composed by Patrick Marcland , performed by Ensemble INICIA!!

https://www.stradivarius.it/scheda.ph... Patrick Marcland Eclipsis for Trumpet and Viola (2007) – Commissioned by the Ensemble Intercontemporain with the support of Sacem. A phenomenon as much allegorical as scientific in antiquity, a game or battle of the gods, an omen, etc., the eclipse is invoked here in all its meanings, hence the preference for the Latin title for this piece in which the two protagonists engage in a game of masks and illusion. One dominates the other, alternately, even when the sound of the viola, in the quest for an impossible equality, seeks to blend with that of the trumpet, in an ambiguity reinforced by the addition of electronics. The particular sound of the viola often has, for me, a certain kinship with that of brass instruments. This is why I have paired it here with the muted trumpet, in a kind of nostalgic wandering. There is nothing narrative in this dialogue, but rather the simple enactment of an antagonism and a kinship that constitute its dynamic. The piece is dedicated to Christophe Desjardins, who premiered it at the Centre Georges Pompidou in 2007 with JeanJacques Gaudon on trumpet. Laurent Camatte and Noé Nillni performed it in 2021 in Laurence Larthouret’s film Rituel.
