Clause 9.2.2 of ISO 9001:2015 QMS Process Audit Using Turtle Diagram, ISO 9001:2015

“Turtle Diagram” is an effective method/tool for process auditing as it helps the auditor visualise the different process characteristics from inputs to outputs.  Processes are made up of inputs, outputs, criteria, resources, risks, metrics and others, and a Turtle Diagram clearly illustrates a process as to how it should be implemented and improved. From the name itself, the diagram looks like the body of a turtle, with different components as body, legs, head, as well as its tail. This is commonly used during internal quality audit of ISO 9001:2015 QMS. This is a very effective memory aid for auditors conducting process audit where audit interviews can begin mentally from the head of the turtle, to its legs and finishing off on the tail. Each part is represented by the different characteristics of the process. This is a very helpful tool in conducting internal audit for ISO 9001:2015 QMS During internal audit of ISO 9001:2015 QMS, Turtle Diagrams allow the auditor to visualize the entire process, including communication and mapping of interrelated processes. This tool can help both process auditor and auditee better understand the process. The diagram helps layout the framework in an easy to follow manner, and can identify significant gaps in the organization’s structure making it an effective tool for process auditing.
