Willem de Haan: Future History

By importing authentic historical horse–drawn carriage tours from Vienna's city center to the yet unfinished satellite city Seestadt, Dutch visual artist Willem de Haan aims to confront Seestadt's locals with the question "How to create a local identity?". The historical perspective of these tours emphasises the lack of history of the brandnew half finished city. Or does it highlight the modest history it's already developed over the last eight years, since construction started? If it depends on showcasing local history, Central Vienna and Seestadt could not be further apart. But how much of your local identity should be based on history? This film tries to offer both newly planned cities as well as historic city centers new perspectives on ways to shape local narrative.
