Cap. #8 Balerio García | Así Se Usa Un Traje Charro | Diferencia Entre Charro Y Mariachi | México

In this new episode of #experienciacharra, you'll learn to distinguish between a charro and a mariachi, between dressing as a charro and what it means to wear the traditional Mexican suit. You'll learn a bit more about tailoring, a spectacular craft with a great deal of artisanal work. At some point in our lives, we've all been captivated by the sight of the charro suit. This attire belongs to the horseman and consists of a short jacket, a white shirt, and a wide-brimmed hat with a tall, conical crown. Men wear fitted trousers, while women wear a long skirt with various embellishments. The charro culture arrived in Mexico with the horsemen from Salamanca, who came to the Americas during colonial times. Its evolution was linked to horses and cattle ranching. This figure gradually became the right-hand man of the landowners, not only caring for their livestock and property but also protecting the community. Maximilian of Habsburg was the one who began the first creations of the charro suit, inspired by the figure of the chinaco, a common man who fought in the War of Independence. Currently, the Mexican Federation of Charrería has classified the charro suit into four categories: work suit, semi-formal suit, formal suit, and full formal suit. The materials used are suede, suede over fabric, and suede over suede. The elements are as follows: shirt, sombrero, jacket, bow tie, sash or belt, belt, trousers, boots, chaps, and spurs. The latter two are essential when working with cattle or when charrería (Mexican rodeo). To speak of Mexico is to immediately associate it with tequila, tacos, and mariachi—not just the music, but also the iconic black attire with the giant sombrero that has captured the world's attention and is a fundamental part of the charro suit. It is a symbol of identity both within and outside the country, and its origins have often been questioned: is it truly as Mexican as it is claimed to be, or does it have European roots? The charro suit consists of a wide-brimmed sombrero, trousers with chaps, a jacket with metal buttons, and boots, but it has various variations depending on the occasion. Its origin is indeed Mexican, dating back to the 16th century when rural men, also called "chinacos," wore this type of clothing, which would later become known as the charro suit. It was Maximilian of Habsburg, the second emperor of Mexico, who was drawn to the charro suit and adopted it as his personal symbol. He made some changes to it, evolving it with fine craftsmanship, silver and gold buttons, and special European-style embroidery, while always preserving its Mexican touch. It is said that the charro suit has Spanish influence, as it was the landowners or wealthy people who could afford it who wore it. For men of lesser means, similar outfits were designed, with suede and other materials used for the buttons. With the arrival of the revolution, the charro suit became a national symbol and began to be worn by all social classes. Types of Riding Attire Working Suit: The most common for competitions Semi-Formal Suit: More ornate, with more detail, and also used for competitions Formal Suit: Can be worn on horseback, but is not used for performing tasks Eyewear: The most elegant of all, used on very special occasions, but never for riding a horse.
