Hexatrek: Pyrenees Centrales Part 2
Last week the landscape transformed dramatically. The towering high mountains are now behind me, replaced by lush forests, winding rivers, tranquil lakes and vibrant shades of green. As I continue east, I leave the highest peaks of the Pyrenees behind and begin my journey towards Ariège. Welcome to Episode 3 of my Hexatrek 2026 adventure as I continue northbound through the French Pyrenees on one of Europe's most challenging long-distance hiking trails. This section of the Hexatrek marks a noticeable change in scenery. The rugged alpine environment gradually gives way to beautiful woodland, peaceful valleys and crystal-clear rivers, while still offering demanding hiking and unforgettable views. Although the terrain is becoming greener, the trail continues to present its own challenges with long days, steep climbs, remote sections and ever-changing conditions. As with much of my Hexatrek journey, I continue to carry everything on my back and spend most nights wild camping in spectacular locations, enjoying peaceful evenings and memorable sunrises before setting off again each morning. Every day brings something different as I make steady progress towards Ariège and, ultimately, Carcassonne. Join me for real-world backpacking, wild camping, mountain hiking and multi-day trekking as I continue across France on the Hexatrek. If you're interested in Hexatrek planning, thru-hiking, section hiking, long-distance walking, ultralight backpacking, hiking gear, camping equipment, GPS navigation, outdoor technology and adventure travel, this series is for you. Expect honest trail conditions, route information, mountain weather, camping locations, navigation challenges, backpacking tips and the reality of life on one of Europe's newest and most ambitious hiking trails. Whether you're planning your own Hexatrek adventure, researching the Pyrenees, training for a thru-hike or simply enjoy hiking videos and outdoor exploration, I hope you'll enjoy following along. Don't forget to like, subscribe and leave a comment if you enjoy hiking, trekking, backpacking, camping and mountain adventures. New Hexatrek episodes will follow as I continue east through the Pyrenees towards Carcassonne. #Hexatrek #Hexatrek2026 #Pyrenees #Ariege #WildCamping #Backpacking #ThruHiking #LongDistanceHiking #Trekking #MountainHiking #UltralightBackpacking #HikingFrance #AdventureTravel #MultiDayHiking #France Want to read more tales from the trail?
