Building a Sustainable Family Farm in Rural Moldova | enpact FEMEIE stories

The Female Entrepreneurship in Moldova - Emergency Initiative for Economic Empowerment (FEMEIE) program was launched in 2023 to provide direct support to women entrepreneurs from Moldova and Ukraine in counteracting the severe repercussions of the Russian war of aggression on their personal livelihoods and work. To date, the program has provided over 220,000 Euros to 75 women entrepreneurs in direct financial support. Throughout the program, they have maintained 403 jobs through their work, increased their revenue, improved their operations, hired new team members, invested over 40,000 Euros collectively into local Moldovan and Ukrainian businesses, and taken concrete steps towards EU market access. Meet Irina Brinza; Irina is one of the participants of the program, a Moldovan entrepreneur and family farm owner, based in a village of 2,000 people in Văratic. Agriculture is the world’s largest industry, employing over one billion people and occupying over 50% of the Earth’s habitable land. With the rapidly increasing impact of climate change, the need for sustainable farming is more urgent than ever.
