Princess Meets Farmhouse 🐷👑 | Kids Bedroom Transformation

When a previous client asked us back after loving the jungle safari bedroom we designed for their son, we couldn't wait for the challenge. This time, we were designing a bedroom for their two-year-old daughter, whose two biggest loves couldn't have been more different: farm animals and all things pink, chic and princess-like. Our goal was to blend these two worlds into one timeless bedroom that feels magical today but can still grow with her over the years. To create the look, we painted a bespoke barn-inspired feature wall using Lady Penelope pink, hand-painting the scalloped fence detail to soften the farmhouse aesthetic with a more elegant, princess feel. The remaining walls and ceiling were finished in Frosted Dawn, an off-white that beautifully complements the pink while keeping the room feeling bright and calm. One of the biggest features in the room almost never happened! After discovering a beautiful barn-shaped shelf on Pinterest that wasn't available to buy, we decided to build it ourselves from scratch using plywood. Once painted to match the room, we added hidden LED backlighting to make it glow in the evenings. The opposite wall became the room's statement piece with the stunning Farm Joy wallpaper from Wallpapermural (not sponsored). We loved that the artwork depicts realistic farm animals in a child-friendly style, making it something she'll hopefully enjoy for many years. To bring even more depth to the wall, we built a timber barn fence in front of the mural and added subtle LED lighting behind it. Lighting was another opportunity to combine the two themes. Instead of buying a pendant light, we designed and made our own feather lampshade entirely from scratch using lampshade wire, fabric, feathers and pearls. Suspended from rope on a handmade wooden bracket, it perfectly blends rustic farmhouse character with soft princess elegance. Finally, we transformed the space beside the floor-to-ceiling window into a cosy reading nook. Featuring our handmade illuminated barn shelf, a soft rug, an adult chair alongside a child's chair, and low-level toy storage, it's the perfect place to read stories together and create lasting memories. We hope this project inspires you to think differently about children's bedrooms. With a little creativity, two completely different themes can come together to create something truly unique.
