GMP loves Manchester!

Greater Manchester Police took over the city's Albert Square on Saturday (29/10/11) to host a major community event to thank the people of region for their support during and after the recent outbreaks of disorder. During the GMP love Manchester day the square was filled with displays from many of the Force's specialist units such as the Mounted Branch, Dog Section and Tactical Aid Unit. Representatives from Neighbourhood Policing units from across the Force, were also present to encourage people to become a valuable part of neighbourhood policing by becoming a member of their local KIN (Key Individual Network). The event proved popular with the public drawing passers-by as well as those who had made a journey especially to attend the event. More than 150 people signed up to be a KIN on the day, they will now work for their community by forwarding crime prevention messages and helping to decide priorities on behalf of local residents. As the Greater Manchester police band played, people also had a chance to visit the crime prevention team, see an ANPR demonstration, take part in workshops with CSIs and see a range of modern and vintage police vehicles.
