Tactically, operationally, and administratively, the 600th/Modang Raider Infantry Battalion is directly under the control of the Commander of the VI/Mulawarman Military Command. Based on the Commander of the VI/Tanjungpura Military Command's Order No. Sprin/498/III/1986 dated March 21, 1986, the status of the 612/Modang Infantry Battalion changed from being under the command of the 091/ASN Military Command to being an Independent Battalion (BS), with command and control directly under the Commander of the VI/Tanjungpura Military Command, effective April 1, 1986. The dispute over Sipadan and Ligitan Islands arose in 1969 when the Indonesia-Malaysia Continental Shelf Technical Team discussed the seabed boundaries between the two countries. Both Sipadan and Ligitan Islands were listed on Malaysian maps as part of the Republic of Indonesia, despite their absence on the maps attached to Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perpu) No. 4/1960, which serves as the working guidelines for the Indonesian Technical Team. The 614/Raja Pandita Battalion's mascot is the Hornbill and the Mandau. The current commander is Major Infantry Ardiansyah.
