My crew is usually pretty small and I do my own editing in-house. That being said, I like to keep it as simple as possible while maintaining quality. I've been looking for the right audio recorder for my new independent feature film! I gave my brother my Zoom H6 which was a beast btw in favor of picking up a Tascam FV2! After using it, I realized I needed a recorder that could provide 32 Bit Float + the traditional 16/24bit which is more controllable for me. When I saw this new release from Zoom, I immediately picked it up. I had been looking at the Tascam X8 but seemed like the better option overall for quality since it features the F series pre amps. Overall, it works great and the audio test will demonstrate that. I will likely still pick up the x8 so that I can properly compress them. The lack of timecode isn't a deal breaker but I'm curious to see if the X8 sounds just as good considering the fact that it has 4 XLR ports + it's used on Amazon right now and cheaper. Overall, the quality from this is great and I do believe most people definitely like it compared to the older Zoom Recorders. They finally updated the menu system but it's still behind other recorders like the x8 but right on par with traditional field recorders.
