Chideock Quarter Peal

Full 51-minute video of the historic Quarter Peal rung on 4 September 2013 at the Church of St Giles in Chideock, West Dorset. This was the first quarter peal rung since the bells in the church tower were restored and the whole configuration of the tower was altered. If much of the ringing chamber looks new, that's because it is! This quarter peal was also the first ever rung by Chideock's Captain of the Bells, Dave Symonds, who is just to the right of the camera wearing the checked shirt and - at the end - the delighted expression. These rushes were filmed for the Heritage Lottery funded project A Tale of Two Bell Towers. Four other smaller cameras were also used to get shots. There will be a lot of editing, but we thought that some people might like to view the whole thing, such as Dave Symonds and - to Dave's right, by the door - his nephew Mark Symonds. Mark is Captain of the Bells at Whitchurch Canonicorum. It's also an unusual event to have two Symonds ringing a Quarter Peal. The conductor was West Dorset ringing master Gareth Evans, who lives at Blackdown.
