Dozens of Ukrainian drones flew toward Moscow on June 18, striking the Russian capital's oil refinery for the second time this week. Kyiv described this as proof of its growing offensive capabilities, and argued that such pressure would force Moscow to accept a peace agreement. Conversely, Russia also launched missiles at Kyiv, marking the second time this week that the Ukrainian capital has suffered large-scale attacks. The attack comes just days after an airstrike damaged Kyiv's more than 1,000-year-old monastery, drawing international criticism. In Moscow, Reuters reporters observed flames and large plumes of smoke rising in the Kapotnya district in the southeast of the city, where an oil refinery supplying fuel to the Russian capital is located. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defense forces were still fending off a large-scale attack and confirmed that several drones had penetrated the defenses to reach the refinery. He also said that a shopping center suffered minor damage. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it had shot down 555 drones across the country, with about 180 intercepted in the Moscow region alone. The state news agency TASS described this as one of the largest drone attacks on Moscow this year.
