Poland paid tribute on Thursday, August 15, 2024, to its historic victory in 1920 over the Red Army, honoring fallen Poles and showcasing modern tanks and other equipment it hopes will deter the threat it perceives from modern Russia. More than 2,500 Polish soldiers, accompanied by dozens of American and other allied soldiers, paraded in military vehicles or tanks, or flew in fighter jets and helicopters in Warsaw, the Polish capital, during the Armed Forces Day holiday. The grand military parade began at 2:00 PM along Wislostrada, from the Sanguszki Street area heading south, after a changing of the guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw. Polish President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk attended the event. Several hundred units of military equipment participated in the parade, including Abrams tanks, HIMARS rocket launchers, and Patriot and Mala Narew air defense systems. The Homar-K Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), the Polish version of South Korea’s K239 Chunmoo rocket artillery system, led the parade. The Homar-K was delivered last year after being customized to meet the specific requirements of the Polish government. It was introduced before the U.S.-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), drawing enthusiastic applause from the crowd. Another Korean-made weapon, the K2 Black Panther tank, entered the parade route five minutes later. The K2, alongside the German Leopard 2 and American M1 Abrams, is a pillar of Poland's next-generation armored forces. The K9 Thunder, a Korean 155mm self-propelled howitzer, appeared three minutes later. The parade concluded with the appearance of the AHS Krab, a self-propelled tracked howitzer built on the K9 Thunder chassis. Certainly, the Russian war room was a little more concerned after what was showcased in Warsaw.
