Real Sea Kayak Rescue Caught on Camera – Calm, Quick & Professional

On 28th May 2025, what started as a nostalgic paddle turned into a textbook sea kayak rescue – and we caught the whole thing on camera. While paddling 9km from Oban to North Ledaig, our Chairman Dave and his brothers Glenn and Mark were reliving a special memory. This was the first place Dave ever paddled a kayak – one he made himself over 50 years ago. For Mark, it was only his second sea kayak trip… and about 1.5km off Ledaig Point, a rogue wave from the rear tipped things off balance. ✅ No panic. ✅ Calm leadership. ✅ Quick rescue. ✅ Back underway in just 4 minutes. With experienced leaders on hand – British Canoeing Sea Kayak Leader Dave and UKCC Level 2 Coach Andy (combined 70+ years’ experience) – the situation was handled safely and smoothly using a standard deep water rescue. All paddlers were fully kitted out with dry suits, buoyancy aids, radios, PLBs, and throwlines. Sea state was slight, wind Force 4, and air temperature 11°C – a great reminder that preparation and clear communication make all the difference. 🕒 The video includes a timer to show just how quickly the rescue unfolded – just 2 minutes and 19 seconds from capsize to re-entry. 💬 Why Share This?
