This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together. Special Thanks to Danshi - Educational Solutions :) https://danshi.co.il/ Halaw bik! 'Smi Andy. Ashlonak? Hello! My name is Andy. How are you? Let's talk about the Iraqi Judeo Arabic language. Iraqi Judeo-Arabic is the ethnolect of Arabic historically spoken by Iraqi Jews (most famously the Baghdad or “Baghdadi” Jewish variety); linguistically it is classified within Mesopotamian (Qeltu) Arabic, was commonly written in Hebrew script for communal literature, shows regular borrowings from Hebrew and Jewish Babylonian Aramaic and some phonological/morpho-syntactic features that distinguish it from neighboring Muslim Arabic varieties, and is now an endangered vernacular mostly preserved among older emigrants (mainly in Israel) after the mid-20th-century emigration. The Jewish community of Iraq (often called Babylonian or “Bavlim”) is one of the world’s oldest continuous Jewish communities, traceable to the Babylonian exile in the 6th century BCE; Baghdad later became a major center (seat of the exilarch and of important yeshivot) and until the mid-20th century Iraqi Jews were a significant urban and cultural presence (notably in music, commerce and religious life); following rising persecution around 1948 and the mass emigration known as Operation Ezra and Nehemiah (roughly in the 120,000–130,000 range moved to Israel in 1950–52, by differing counts), most Iraqi Jews now live in Israel and other diasporas while only a handful remain in Iraq; core cultural continuities (distinct liturgical customs, cuisine, musical traditions such as the Al-Kuwaity legacy) survive in diaspora communities. This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes. It aims to provide valuable insights and knowledge to viewers, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of different languages and their unique characteristics. By raising awareness about linguistic diversity, the video seeks to foster a greater respect and recognition for various languages, particularly those that are endangered or underrepresented. Additionally, it contributes to the preservation of languages by documenting and sharing linguistic knowledge, thus ensuring that these languages and their cultural heritage are not lost to future generations.
