Wann brauchst Du ein neues Segel? Die wichtigsten Anzeichen einfach erklärt

How do you know when a sail needs replacing? Many sailors use their sails for significantly longer than is advisable for performance or safety reasons – often because the signs of wear and tear aren't easily recognized. In this video, the sail manufacturer explains how to tell when a sail has lost its optimal shape and when it's time for a new one. Sails don't just age visibly – often, their performance deteriorates gradually over several seasons. Typical signs of a worn sail: • The boat doesn't sail as well upwind • The sail's profile is too full or can no longer be trimmed properly • Wrinkles appear despite correct trim • The material feels soft or loses its stability • Increased rudder pressure and poorer boat balance As sails age, they lose shape stability. UV radiation, heavy loads, and frequent use cause the profile to change, and the sail no longer performs efficiently. This not only reduces speed, but can also impair control and handling. A new sail therefore means not only more performance, but often also more safety, better balance, and a more relaxed sailing experience. Cruising sailors, in particular, benefit when their sails are perfectly suited to the boat and their individual sailing style. This video will help you realistically assess when a sail replacement makes sense and which factors play a role.
