In Our Backyard: Trinity Loop, Trinity NL Fall 2022
Trinity loop was an unusual feature of the Bonavista Branch line of the former Newfoundland Railway. In order to manage the grade, the tracks looped around a small pond before passing under themselves near the Town of Trinity. The decommissioning of the Bonavista branch and main railway left only a select few sections of track in place - one of which was around the 'Loop'. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the loop had a second life as an amusement park complete with a train. The amusement park closed and between vandals and Hurricane Igor( n 2010), the loop and what's left of the park has become derelict - yet oddly compelling to visit. Here's what it looks like today...
