The Pakistani military announced it had conducted airstrikes in the Afghan provinces of Kunar, Paktia, and Paktaka, targeting militant positions used to launch attacks inside Pakistan. In a statement, the military said the operations, which included movements along the Pakistani-Afghan border, resulted in the deaths of 29 militants. The statement added that the operation was in response to an attack on its forces in Karachi, Sindh province, which killed three soldiers. It also noted that one of the attackers was killed and another, who it said had received training in Afghanistan, was arrested. The Pakistani army has also accused armed groups of being based inside Afghan territory and receiving support and training there, at a time when security tensions are escalating on both sides of the border.
