This monitoring flight was conducted to assess the current condition of Mount Merapi's Southwest Lava Dome following a major eruption on Tuesday, June 23, 2026. Using a long-range FPV drone, we approached the lava dome area to observe morphological changes and ongoing volcanic activity. Aerial observations revealed that previously collapsed lava material still leaves steep cliffs and unstable areas. Several subsequent volcanic eruptions are still occurring, indicating that the movement of material within the lava dome has not completely ceased. Thin to moderate white smoke can be seen emanating from several parts of the dome, indicating ongoing volcanic activity within. How significant are the changes following this major eruption? Has the volume of the lava dome decreased significantly? And what is the condition of the volcanic path that leads volcanic material to the southwest slope?
