I set out on a solo boat camping and fishing trip with big plans — the idea was to camp overnight on the boat Saturday, then pick up the family Sunday morning for a fun day out at Peel. But things took a turn. A surprise motor issue meant I had to limp the boat all the way back from Straddy to Victoria Point — not exactly in the script! Still, the trip had its highlight: a beast of a sweetlip, 70cm long and weighing in at 2.9kg, caught on a 15 lb line while drifting near the shallows.
