Ces peuples qui obligent la science à repenser l'être humain | Documentaire
Some peoples have developed such extraordinary human capacities that they still compel science to rethink the human body, adaptation, and our relationship with the environment. From the Bajau, whose physiology bears the mark of generations spent at sea, to the Tsimane and their exceptionally well-preserved arteries… from Moken children able to see better underwater to the Pirahã, whose language lacks precise numbers: this journey takes us to the very frontiers of what we thought we knew about humankind. In the Namib Desert, Himba women cover their skin with otjize, a red earth that has become a symbol of beauty, identity, and protection. In Tanzania, the Hadza still live largely by hunting and gathering, while their metabolism and microbiome have profoundly intrigued researchers. In the forests of Central Africa, the Baka, Aka, and Mbuti reveal different human stories, shaped by the forest, growth, music, and the passing down of knowledge. In the Kalahari, some San trackers can read in an almost faded track what many of us would never see. In the mountains of Pakistan, the Kalash perpetuate a world of ancient rites, while the Hunza Valley confronts us with one of the greatest modern myths about longevity. And in the Andaman Sea, a story passed down through generations allowed the Moken to recognize the signs of a tsunami before the wave arrived. Bajau, Himba, Tsimane, Kalash, Hadza, Baka, Aka, Mbuti, San, Pirahã, Hunza, Moken… Perhaps they defy no laws of nature. Perhaps they simply remind us of all that the human body, culture, and memory can become when a people live long enough in close contact with the same world.
