The National Police announced Thursday that they will investigate the sanitary conditions of the cells at the Regional Directorate in San Cristóbal, where detainee Miguel Antonio Lucas, known as “Miguelito,” died. His family has filed complaints alleging physical abuse during his time in custody. The institution's spokesperson, Colonel Diego Pesqueira, explained that the investigation is ongoing and that they are awaiting the results of the autopsy performed by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF). These results will allow them to determine the precise cause of death and establish whether there is evidence of physical assault. “We are going to wait and see if there is indeed any health issue within one of those cells, and as soon as we have those results, we will make them public,” Pesqueira stated.
