As a guide the smellier the better. Your bait will need to be tied to a rope and then waved in the water to attract the worms - Step 2, you need to find and correctly identify your target worm, when the tide recedes you should see the worms head make a ““V”” like pattern in the sand. Shells and other sea life make a similar pattern, so it’s important to look for the worm’s distinctive white head. - Now come the hard parts, step 3, you will need to walk softly as you approach your worm, so you don’t startle it. You will also need a smaller bait such as a pilchard, a pippi or part of your big bait. With this you will wave it about 15cm above your worm in order to entice it out of the sand. - Step 4, going in for the kill. You will need to let the worm bite your bait and at the same time with your other hand, you will gently feel the sides of the worm with your fingers. It is important not to attempt to grab the worm, and pull it up at this point, everyone does this at least once, because it seems so easy, like “the worm is just there, grab it, pinch it, it will be fine, No, that’s wrong.
