Tricky Landing with Swirling Wind | Wawa to Dryden in a Cessna 172

In today’s episode, we’re taking flight from Wawa, Ontario—home of the famous Wawa Goose—and heading west across Northern Ontario toward Dryden, with a quick stop for fuel in Marathon. This leg of the cross-country journey showcases some of the most beautiful and remote parts of Canada as we make our way toward Steinbach, Manitoba in a 1961 Cessna 172B, Foxtrot Mike Victor Uniform. Along the way, I share some real-world flight planning decisions—fuel management, weather updates, and choosing safe alternates in areas where airports are few and far between. From hazy Lake Superior skies to classic small-town hospitality, this flight is a perfect example of what general aviation in Canada is all about. After landing in Dryden, plans change as a line of thunderstorms moves in between Dryden and Steinbach.
