While most people would take the easy option — a one-hour flight — I decided that was far too boring. Instead, I’m taking the long way: a 5-hour train, a 2-hour taxi, and a 4-hour boat ride to reach my next country. The adventure begins in Chennai, where I board a southbound train with a first-class ticket. I’ll give you a tour of the cabin, show you around the train, and sample snacks from various vendors along the way. After the train, I hop into a taxi that takes me deep into Tamil Nadu, arriving in the coastal port town of Nagapattinam. Once there, I check into a local hotel and give a quick room tour. Hungry and curious, I hit the streets and end up hitching a lift on the back of a stranger’s bike into town. The man kindly buys me a drink before I stumble across a small stall selling delicious Indian fried snacks.
