Quantum Consciousness: Is The Mind More Than The Brain?
What if consciousness is more than ordinary brain activity? In this calm Late Lab journey, we explore the strange and controversial idea of quantum consciousness, asking whether awareness can be explained by neuroscience alone, or whether deeper physical processes might play a role. We’ll move through the hard problem of consciousness, quantum measurement, the observer misconception, quantum biology, Penrose and Hameroff’s Orch OR theory, microtubules, anaesthesia, decoherence, and leading alternatives such as Global Neuronal Workspace and Integrated Information Theory. Quantum consciousness remains unproven, but the question is too fascinating to ignore: is the mind simply what the brain does, or is consciousness touching something deeper in reality?
