Thunywaphi Lucia Khwela

14 May 2024 - The Oral History Unit in the KZN Archives and Records Service had the privilege of recording the life journey of Mrs. Thunywaphi Lucia Khwela, born on May 14, 1923. Despite encountering numerous hurdles, such as battling kidney issues in 2022 which significantly impacted her health, and confining her to bed, Mrs. Khwela has consistently displayed remarkable resilience and fortitude. A survivor of cancer, she underwent a mastectomy in 2016, serving as an enduring inspiration to those around her with her unyielding spirit. Mrs. Khwela was wedded to Peter Nduli and is survived by her two children, Mfanakhona and Makhosi, who have been steadfast pillars of comfort and support throughout her journey. She has also expressed profound appreciation for the unwavering assistance provided by the Ntombela family, into which her daughter Makhosi married. The Oral History Unit of the Archives and Records Service extends its heartfelt wishes for Mrs. Khwela's continued well-being and assistance during this trying period. It is with great honour that her remarkable narrative has been preserved for the benefit of future generations.
