[Anchor] Outside of Earth, ozone is a beneficial substance that blocks ultraviolet rays, but in the air, it transforms into a harmful substance that is fatal to the lungs and heart. In fact, as of 2019, the number of excess deaths caused by ozone in Korea reached 2,890. The problem is that the substances that create this ozone are being emitted unchecked in every corner of our daily lives. Weather expert reporter Lee Jeong-hoon used a special camera to personally verify where these substances are coming from. [Report] Ozone is created by nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). While nitrogen oxides are known to mostly originate from vehicles and factories, sources of VOCs are hidden throughout our living spaces. Like ozone, VOCs are also invisible substances. We will use an infrared camera to check where these VOCs are coming from. The moment the fuel nozzle is removed after refueling, gases invisible to standard cameras swirl and rise up chaotically in infrared cameras. While special devices block these gases during refueling, there is no way to prevent the gas from leaking out afterward. Therefore, during the summer, please refrain from refueling during the day and refuel in the morning or at night."] When oil-based paint is sprayed to paint car parts, the camera reacts immediately. While locations equipped with filtration systems are fine, harmful gases are released directly when painting outdoors. This is not the only location. Gases are emitted from the spraying of hairspray, during cooking, and from vehicle exhaust pipes. Since it is difficult to filter out, there is no solution unless the raw materials themselves are changed.
