Yamaha Outboard Overheat Alarm Fix - Water and Vinegar Engine Flush
This video provides a detailed demonstration of an engine flush using a water and vinegar solution. The 2001 Yamaha OX66 Saltwater Series II, 225 HP, outboard engine was experiencing an overheat alarm. The overheat alarm presented itself shortly after reaching cruising RPMs when out on the water. The engine received an initial flush when returned home, but the overheat alarm continued, even at idle RPMs. A water and vinegar solution (8:1 ratio) was used to help remove and flush out any calcium and other mineral deposits that could have been attributing to a restriction in the cooling system. The solution was circulated through the engine for about 4 hours to loosen and remove any deposits. The water and vinegar flush was followed by a freshwater flush and the engine was run to measure temperatures at each cylinder bank. The temperatures at each bank were within spec and demonstrated that the likely cause of the overheat condition was due to sediment and/or mineral deposits restricting the water circulation on the starboard side of the engine. 1/4HP Submersible Utility Pump 1800 GPH https://amzn.to/3ztSZ55 Enjoy, Like and Subscribe!
