Willem-Alexander en Máxima bezoeken Gelderse Vallei
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima pay a regional visit to the Gelderse Vallei (Guelders Valley) in the province of Gelderland. The Royal Couple visit municipalities of Nijkerk, Barneveld, Scherpenzeel, Ede and Wageningen. Municipality of Nijkerk The Apple Path The regional visit starts at the Appelpad. This 'clog path' is located in the outskirts of Nijkerk. Paths that have often existed for centuries but have lost their original function are given a new destination as a walking route for nature lovers. During a walk through this historic cultural landscape, the Royal Couple talks with volunteers who maintain the path, with an agricultural entrepreneur about land use and with the estate owner about the management of the area. Municipality of Barneveld Poultry Expertise Centre In Barneveld, the Royal Couple will then visit the Poultry Expertise Center (PEC). This center is a partnership of companies, government and knowledge institutions that are involved in the poultry sector. The PEC is located on the grounds of Aeres MBO Barneveld. The MBO students learn about animal care at PEC. Students from Wageningen University are conducting research into, among other things, the protein enrichment of poultry feed by means of farmed insects. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will be given a short tour and will then discuss with those involved in the PEC and with farmers and entrepreneurs from the area about the sustainability and development of the poultry sector, the position of the sector in the region and the value of knowledge and research. Municipality of Scherpenzeel Volunteers The Royal Couple will visit Scherpenzeel around noon. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima walk through Park Scherpenzeel, a central meeting place of the municipality. In Huis Scherpenzeel, the former town hall, they then speak with volunteers in healthcare, in the recreational and cultural sector and in the social domain. The conversations focus on the role and significance of volunteers and voluntary work in the lives of people in the neighbourhood. Municipality of Ede ENKA and Korfball association DVO In the afternoon a visit to the ENKA site in Ede follows. ENKA was a factory for artificial silk production from 1922 to 2003. Since 2011, a residential area has been created here. In the area, new construction is combined with the monumental buildings, so that the industrial heritage is preserved. During a short walk, the King and Queen Máxima will talk to local residents and the project developer about living in this district, about the reuse of heritage and about the development of the area around the adjacent train station. Subsequently, the Royal Couple will visit korfball club DVO in Bennekom, also in the municipality of Ede. Several members give demonstrations of the sport. In addition, they talk about the social cohesion within the club, the G Team that familiarizes people with intellectual disabilities with korfball and the efforts of volunteers at the 850-member club. Municipality of Wageningen Food production in the future Finally, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will visit student association SSR-W in Wageningen. At the club, the students talk about their choice for a study in food production, supply and development. In doing so, they discuss how the increasing demand for food can be solved in an ecologically responsible manner and what other challenges they see in the field of agriculture, food and climate. Finally, they discuss student welfare in the region. © Copyright RoyalTV
