How to Be Inspired Without Copying (And What to Do If You've Been Copied)

Have you ever worried that someone might copy your ideas? Or maybe you've found yourself on the other side... Looking at another creator's project and wondering, "Am I inspired...or am I copying?" Whether you're a crafter, artist, YouTuber, Etsy seller, writer, musician, or small business owner, this is a conversation every creator will face at some point. If you've ever wrestled with where the line is between inspiration and imitation—or wondered how to honor other creators while still developing your own creative voice—this episode is for you. This week on Created to Create, we're talking about something much deeper than copying. We're talking about trust. ✨ What if our fear of being copied...or our fear of accidentally copying someone else...is really revealing where we've placed our identity? In this episode, we'll explore: • Why being copied hurts so much • Why we're often afraid of being seen as "the one who copied" • The difference between inspiration, imitation, and plagiarism • Practical ways to honor other creators while finding your own creative voice • When and how to give credit to the creators who inspire you • How to share generously without hurting your business • Why God never runs out of ideas • How to hold your creativity with open hands instead of clenched fists Most importantly, we'll keep coming back to one question: "What am I trusting more...my next idea, or the God who gives ideas?" We'll also explore what Scripture teaches about abundance, identity, generosity, and learning to trust the Creator more than our next idea. My prayer is that you'll leave this episode feeling less afraid to create, more confident in your own unique calling, and encouraged to build a creative life rooted in generosity instead of scarcity. 💜 Remember... The same God who gave you one idea can give you another tomorrow. "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness." — Lamentations 3:22–23 And maybe... His ideas are new every morning, too. If you've ever struggled with comparison, competition, the fear of being copied, or the fear of accidentally copying someone else, I hope this conversation reminds you that your security isn't found in one brilliant idea. It's found in the God who gave you the ability to create in the first place. ❤️ I'd love to hear from you in the comments: Where do YOU think the line is between inspiration and copying? And... What's one piece of advice you'd give to a new creator who's trying to create with both integrity and confidence? Let's have a thoughtful, grace-filled conversation that encourages creators instead of dividing them.
