The Olympus IS-2000 is a ridiculously cheap and ridiculously good quality film camera

…in which I share my latest bargain basement film camera purchase, the Olympus IS-2000. L-2, IS-2, call it what you like, this landed on the scene in 1992 with the subtlety of a fat middle-aged wrestler being chokeslammed onto the canvas by the burgeoning arrival of digital photography. It's big, it's ugly and it's now ridiculously cheap. After all, who wants a camera that has the classy feel of a plastic cup holder in the form factor of a 2nd world war gas mask? Me, obviously; at least enough to buy one for AUD $19 from an Aussie pawn shop. The irony is that these were not cheap cameras 'back in the day', rather a high tech all-in-one for the photographer who doesn't want to change lenses but wants to up their image quality game. The question is, does it actually produce a decent photo? I test it out and review it by taking it to Guildford, one of the first settlements in Perth Western Australia. How does this heritage camera hold up in this heritage precinct? A Saturday morning dog walk might just give us some insight into this camera conundrum. It's big and hefty but with the build quality of a 1990s point and shoot. Will the sizable lens deliver the quality to make up for that or is it just a bridge camera to far?
