De Hoop in The Richterveld.

Hallo everybody and welcome back to our channel. We are still in the Richtersveld. The Orange river makes a significant bend up to the north and that is where the Richtersveld is tugged in. High up in the Northern section of the Namaqualand is this barren piece of land. There are not enough words to describe this raw, untouched, beautiful place with succulents and other plants just living of the mist from the ocean. Camping at De Hoop next to the river was awesome but had some challenges. The sand is soft in places, and it is best to check before driving. We did not get stuck, but others did. Then the Vervet monkeys - keep your stuff tightly closed. They stole a sweet potato right from under my nose! The wind picked up on the second afternoon and nearly blew us into the water. The vehicle helped as barrier. The drive back to Alexander Bay was without incident and quite interesting. To actually get to the Orange river mouth was epic. It felt like an enormous victory. We tamed the river! The estuary is breathtaking and peaceful. The wind was just somewhat crazy, and a picnic was difficult, but we found shelter next to the bakkie. Drone footage would have been nice. Our Namakwa 4x4 Eco Trail sticker now sits proudly in the back window of the canopy.
