Commemorating 250 years of American History and Community. Wednesday July 1, 6:00 p.m. - Sandwich Celebrates America 250 Main Event on the Sandwich Public Library Lawn Welcome by Library Director Diane Costagliola Presentation of Colors by American Legion Post 188 Color Guard Pledge of Allegiance & Citation Presentation by State Senator Dylan Fernandes and Representative Steven Xiarhos National Anthem by Jeanne Prendergast Indigenous History & Recognition by the Herring Pond Wampanoag Tribe Historical Reflections featuring Edward Bacon & Dr. Nathaniel Freeman Abridged Reading of the Declaration of Independence with Town Clerk Taylor White Proclamation by Sandwich Select Board Community Sing-Along with Jeanne Prendergast Commemorative Bell Ringing with St. John's and First Church Musical Selections by the Sandwich Town Band On July 4, 2026, our nation commemorated and celebrated the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This historic milestone provided an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond. From June 27-July 4, Sandwich hosted a special weeklong celebration to celebrate America's 250th birthday. History and hometown pride came together in a showcase of our favorite traditions and pastimes, including fireworks, a band concert, historical reenactments, a free museum day, Wampanoag reflections, a 5K road race, and a parade.
